Columbia was named the best place to live in Maryland (and sixth most desirable in the nation) by Money Magazine in 2022, and we can’t help but agree! It’s an absolutely beautiful and idyllic escape from the hustle and bustle of nearby Baltimore, and we’re so excited to call Columbia the official home of our third dispensary in the beautiful state of Maryland. If you’re heading to CULTA Columbia, make plans to stay awhile and explore. Here are some of our favorite things to do, and all are within six miles of our dispensary.
Cushwa and Rad Pies (20 feet)
Cushwa and Rad Pies is quite literally our next-door neighbor, and it’s where you can catch us grabbing an ice cold beer and a fresh slice after work. With innovative pizzas like the Elote Pizza, the Saucy Triplet, and the Perfect Pear, as well as a variety of apps, sandwiches, and vegan-friendly options, there’s something on the Rad Pies menu to satisfy any craving. Cushwa brews various beers, including Cush, their flagship IPA, and German-style Kolsches and Hefeweizens. In a rush? Order for pick-up while you’re browsing our dispensary, and head home with a hot pie and your favorite CULTA product.
Color Burst Park (4 miles)
Color Burst Park is located in the Merriweather District of Columbia, the city’s hub for culture and commerce. With fitness classes, free concerts, family-friendly movie nights, and a splash pad, it’s a great place to enjoy the warmer summer weather with friends, family, or solo. Each summer, between the beginning of June and the end of August, the general public can enjoy free fitness classes and a concert series called “Amped in the Park.” In May, there’s a book festival and during the winter there’s a holiday tree lighting. Keep an eye on Merriweather’s events page for the latest events.
Lake Kittamaqundi (5 miles)
Ranked #1 on Tripadvisor’s list of things to do in Columbia, Lake Kittamaqundi is a man-made lake located in the same vicinity as the Mall in Columbia and Merriweather Post Pavilion. The lake has a boathouse with a wooden pier and a launching ramp, and Nomanizan Island can be reached by boat. It’s a popular gathering place for many summer festivals, including the annual Fouth of July fireworks. You can even walk entirely around the lake on a paved and mostly flat path; the 1.4 mile long path can take anywhere from 45 mins to 1 hour+ to complete.
Merriweather Lakehouse Hotel (5.1 miles)
Though there are plenty of accommodations in Columbia, none is quite as beautiful or centrally located as the Merriweather Lakehouse Hotel, part of Marriot’s Autograph Collection of hotels. A recent multi-million dollar renovation brought brand new guest rooms and a rooftop bar with sweeping views of Lake Kittamaqundi. Their on-site restaurant Lak partners closely with Columbia’s local farm culture, preparing from-scratch seasonal creations. Whether you stay for an hour or make a staycation out of it, the picturesque setting simply can’t be beat.
Robinson Nature Center (5.6 miles)
If you want to put down your phone and spend some time touching grass, Robinson Nature Center is a nearby nature preserve that sits on 18 pristine acres. Since the center uses geothermal heating and air conditioning, porous paving, and solar panels (and takes part in water conservation methods), it boasts a LEED Certified Platinum designation, which is the highest level designation. Plan to spend up to 2-3 hours here navigating through two stories of interactive exhibits, a digital planetarium, demonstration gardens with native plants, and walking trails with views of the Middle Patuxent River.
