Halloween is right around the corner, and if you’re looking for some last-minute costume ideas that aren’t super basic (i.e., a ghost, a cat, or a witch), we’ve got you covered. These costumes are fun and unique and use items you might already have around your house. On top of that, they’re a low-key (or, dare we say, high-key) way for you to declare that you’re 4/20-friendly. Whether you’re heading to a party or dressing up at work, here are some of our favorite cannabis-themed costumes. 

Famous Cannabis Celebrities

One easy DIY costume idea is to dress up like your favorite cannabis celebrity. Just be respectful, particularly if you’re dressing up as someone of a different race or gender — you don’t want your costume to land you in the middle of an HR nightmare. Here are some ideas: 

• Seth Rogen- Dress like Seth Rogen in Knocked Up, complete with bong and all. Just make sure to check the paraphernalia laws in your state first, or err on the side of caution and craft a bong using cardboard instead. 

• Willie Nelson- Buy a wig with two long braids, wear a red bandana or a cowboy hat, toss on an old t-shirt, and grab an acoustic guitar. Bonus points if you already have facial hair. 

• Hunter S. Thompson- Grab some yellow-lensed aviators, a funky shirt, and a white bucket hat, and you’re good to go! Bonus points for a suitcase. 
• Miley Cyrus- It’s no secret that Miley Cyrus loves cannabis, and with so many iconic outfits to act as inspiration, this one shouldn’t be too hard to put together. 

The “celebrities” can be fictional characters, too! 

• Cheech and Chong- Transform into this iconic duo with a tie-dye shirt, bell bottoms, and accessories like a fake joint and sunglasses. 

• Jay and Silent Bob- Channeling Jay and Silent Bob is as simple as wearing a baggy hoodie and baseball hat for Jay and a long trench coat and beanie for Bob. 

• Shaggy from Scooby Doo- Embody Shaggy by wearing a green v-neck shirt, brown bell bottoms, and messy hair. Bonus points if you drive a Mystery Van. 

• The Dude from Big Lebowski- All you need for this costume is a bathrobe, a white t-shirt, pajama pants, sunglasses, and flip-flops. Talk about easy! 

Snoop Dogg & Martha Stewart

Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart deserve their section — after all, they’re one of America’s favorite power couples! Whether you’re dressing up with your partner in crime or your best friend forever, this costume is all in the accessories (think: a fake joint and chains for Snoop and a blonde bob wig and a freshly baked pie for Martha.) These two go together like peanut butter and jelly, and this costume is sure to stand out amongst all the Adam and Eves. 

The Devil’s Lettuce 

This one might not be so obvious right off the bat, but once people “get it,” they’re sure to let out a laugh. For this costume, grab a cheap lettuce costume off Amazon and pair it with a devil headband. It’s super easy, and super funny, and you can save the headband for next year. Pro tip: this costume can be turned into a couple’s costume pretty easily — one of you wears the lettuce costume, one of you wears a devil costume, and you’re ready for the couple’s costume contest! 

A Pothead 

For this costume, you’re probably thinking about dressing like Matthew McConaughey from “Dazed and Confused,” but what if we told you it’s WAY easier than that? Simply take a pot that’s big enough to fit on your head (it can be a gardening pot or a cooking pot -- we told you it’s easy!), and put it on your head. Add a string of Christmas lights to become an “enlightened pothead,” or wear a suit and tie to transform into a “professional pothead.” The sky’s the limit! 

Medical Marijuana Doctor 

A doctor is a pretty popular Halloween costume, so this costume idea should be relatively easy to throw together last minute. Take a standard white lab coat and stethoscope to the next level by adorning the coat with cannabis patches, stickers, and pins. Complete the look with goofy glasses, a bright green wig, and a clipboard with funny “prescriptions” written down. Hand out candy (aka “edibles”) to make the costume interactive. 

Weed Baggie 

Create a fun weed baggie costume by wearing a green or clear poncho that mimics a resealable plastic bag, complete with printed designs of cannabis leaves. Add playful labels like "Kush" or "Chronic” and the usual disclaimer information you see on the labels of cannabis products. Accessorize with green leggings or shorts underneath and a hat shaped like a nug or a joint. Add some fake buds or colorful candy inside your "baggie" for extra flair. 

4/20-Friendly Ways to Celebrate 

Looking for some 4/20-friendly ways to celebrate Halloween? If it’s too late to find (or host) a large party, here are some fun last-minute ways to celebrate by yourself or with a few friends: 

• Movie night-  Invite a few friends over for a movie marathon, complete with popcorn and candy. Tucker & Dale vs Evil is a great horror-comedy to watch with a group!
