In June 2023, CULTA acquired Kannavis, which was officially rebranded as CULTA Urbana in May 2024. As we continue to expand our presence in the beautiful state of Maryland, selecting the perfect locations for our new dispensaries is key. And how much more perfect could it get than Urbana? With lots to do and loads of charm, there’s a whole lot to love about Urbana. Here are some of our favorite things to do in the area, along with how far they are from CULTA Urbana.
Attend an Alive @ Five Happy Hour (9.3 miles)
If you’re heading to CULTA Urbana on a Thursday, you’ll want to time it perfectly so you can go to this fun outdoor happy hour afterwards. This annual event kicks off its season early in May and runs through early October, with a different band playing each week. The 21+ event occurs weekly on Thursdays at Carroll Creek Amphitheater and has a $6 entry fee, $6 craft beverages, and food available for purchase onsite. Hike Sugarloaf Mountain (6.5 miles)
Just a short drive from Urbana, Sugarloaf Mountain offers hiking trails, scenic views, and picnic areas. Whether you want to get in a quick hike before (or after) visiting CULTA Urbana or want to spend an entire day exploring the hills, the views at Sugarloaf Mountain simply can’t be beat. The 6.7 mile loop is moderately challenging and takes about 3.5 hours to complete. With several trails you can customize your route to be as long or as short as you’d like.
Pet Animals @ Green Meadows Petting Farm (3.2 miles)
If you’re feeling especially stressed, unwind and relax by getting up close with all the adorable critters at Green Meadows Petting Farm. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to feed and pet a wide range of furry friends, including goats, sheep, pigs, chickens, and ducks. Throughout the year they also offer educational demonstrations and seasonal events (like pumpkin picking in the fall and an Easter egg hunt for the kiddos in the spring.) This family-friendly attraction is sure to delight kids of all ages.
Visit a distillery (9-10 miles)
If you love a good distillery, you’re in luck. Urbana is home to several well-regarded distilleries, including McClintock Distilling, Dragon Distillery, and Tenth Ward Distilling Company. Founded in 2013, McClintock Distilling is known for its focus on using organic and locally sourced ingredients, while Dragon Distillery takes pride in their handcrafted approach to distilling. Finally, Tenth Ward Distilling Company loves to collaborate with other local businesses to create unique and unconventional spirits. All three distilleries offer tours, tastings, and fun events.
Nosh on Authentic Peruvian @ Mayta’s (6.2 miles)
Ranked #8 of 259 restaurants in Frederick on Tripadvisor and with 1,000+ positive reviews on Google, Mayta’s Peruvian Cuisine is a local favorite for authentic and home cooked Peruvian food. With daily specials and an expansive menu that includes Peruvian ceviches, appetizers-to-share like Papa a la Huancaina and Causa, refreshing Pisco Sours, and the perennial favorite Lomo Saltado, it’s the perfect place to enjoy a slice of Peru in Frederick. They even brew their own craft beers using white corn that’s harvested on a family farm in Peru!
Explore Downtown Frederick (10.2 miles)
We love Frederick so much that we wrote an entire blog about it. Although the surrounding area has plenty to offer (including wine tasting, scenic routes, and plenty of iconic covered bridges), we could spend an entire day (or two) strolling through the picturesque Downtown district. With more than 200 specialty shops, breweries, galleries, distilleries, and restaurants, Downtown Frederick has something for everyone. Check their events page for upcoming events and with some careful planning your trip to CULTA Urbana can coincide with a comedy showcase, film screening, or live music event.
Throw an Ax @ Stumpy’s Hatchet House (7.1 miles)
If you prefer to reduce your stress by angrily throwing an ax, Stumpy’s Hatchet House is just what the doctor ordered. Here, you’ll be taught how to throw an ax in a controlled, yet fun and energetic, environment. With eight throwing pits, a jukebox, arcade games, and bring-your-own food and bring-your-own drink options, Stumpy’s is sure to offer a fun and unique experience for all. To save a spot during peak times, Stumpy’s recommends making a reservation in advance. Just remember: you ARE throwing an ax, so pay attention to all safety protocols!
